A lifelong student of Maratha history, the author has spent years studying primary sources, forts, and oral traditions to bring this work to readers. मराठा इतिहासाचे आजीवन अभ्यासक असलेल्या लेखकाने अनेक वर्षे प्राथमिक साधने, गडकोट आणि मौखिक परंपरांचा अभ्यास करून हे पुस्तक वाचकांसमोर आणले आहे.
In His Own Journey / जीवनप्रवास
Mr. Bapusaheb Deshmukh was born in a farmer's family whose forefathers served the Yadava dynasty. The title 'Deshmukh' was conferred on his forefathers by the Yadavas. His forefathers migrated from Chandwad to Kotul in the year 1600. His forefathers also served in the army of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.
He completed his highschool education at Kotul and obtained a Diploma in Mechanical Engineering from Government Polytechnic, Pune in the year 1984. He worked as Technical Assistant and Group Instructor at Amrutvahini Engineering College, Sangamner, till November 1989. Simultaneously, he also held the post of Taluka President, Shivsena, Akole, and District Vice President, Nagar Uttar. During this period he organized rallies on the occasion of Shivjayanti and raised various public issues.
In December 1989 he was selected as a Scientific Assistant in the Directorate of Quality Assurance, Ministry of Defence. Initially, he worked at Ahilyanagar (Ahmednagar) and was transferred to Pune in the year 1998. Subsequently, he was promoted to the post of Jr. Technical Officer, and was posted to Delhi. His final posting was at Pune, from where he retired on 31st May 2025. During his tenure in Defence, he received three Directorate of Quality Assurance awards for his service.
He initiated the celebration of the birth anniversary of Chhatrapati Rajaram Maharaj at Rajgad in 1998. In 1999, he was designated as President of the 'Chhatrapati Rajaram Maharaj Smarak Samiti', Pune, during a meeting chaired by Shahu Chhatrapati Maharaj of Kolhapur. He reinstated the death anniversary programme of Chhatrapati Rajaram Maharaj at Sinhgad in 1999, which has since been organised regularly. He has delivered speeches on topics such as 'Administration', 'Economic Policies', 'Foreign Policies', and the 'Maratha Army' of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and Chhatrapati Rajaram Maharaj at various places. He has also delivered speeches in Hindi on the subject of "मराठों की उत्तर में शौर्यगाथा" at Agra, Delhi, and Panipat.

श्री. बापूसाहेब देशमुख यांचा जन्म एका शेतकरी कुटुंबात झाला, ज्यांच्या पूर्वजांनी यादव राजवटीची सेवा केली होती. यादवांकडून त्यांच्या पूर्वजांना 'देशमुख' ही पदवी देण्यात आली होती. त्यांचे पूर्वज १६०० साली चांदवड येथून कोतुळ येथे स्थलांतरित झाले. त्यांच्या पूर्वजांनी छत्रपती शिवाजी महाराजांच्या सैन्यातही सेवा बजावली.
त्यांनी कोतुळ येथे माध्यमिक शिक्षण पूर्ण केले आणि १९८४ साली शासकीय तंत्रनिकेतन, पुणे येथून यांत्रिकी अभियांत्रिकीमध्ये पदविका संपादन केली. त्यांनी नोव्हेंबर १९८९ पर्यंत अमृतवाहिनी अभियांत्रिकी महाविद्यालय, संगमनेर येथे तांत्रिक सहाय्यक आणि गट प्रशिक्षक म्हणून काम केले. त्याचबरोबर त्यांनी तालुका अध्यक्ष, शिवसेना, अकोले आणि जिल्हा उपाध्यक्ष, नगर उत्तर ही पदेही सांभाळली. या काळात त्यांनी शिवजयंतीच्या निमित्ताने रॅली आयोजित केल्या आणि विविध सार्वजनिक प्रश्न मांडले.
डिसेंबर १९८९ मध्ये त्यांची संरक्षण मंत्रालयाच्या गुणवत्ता आश्वासन संचालनालयात वैज्ञानिक सहाय्यक म्हणून निवड झाली. सुरुवातीला त्यांनी अहिल्यानगर (अहमदनगर) येथे काम केले आणि १९९८ साली त्यांची पुणे येथे बदली झाली. त्यानंतर त्यांना कनिष्ठ तांत्रिक अधिकारी या पदावर बढती मिळाली आणि त्यांची दिल्ली येथे नियुक्ती झाली. त्यांची अंतिम नियुक्ती पुणे येथे होती, जिथून ते ३१ मे २०२५ रोजी सेवानिवृत्त झाले. संरक्षण सेवेतील कार्यकाळात त्यांना गुणवत्ता हमी संचालनालयाचे तीन पुरस्कार प्राप्त झाले.
त्यांनी १९९८ साली राजगड येथे छत्रपती राजाराम महाराज यांच्या जयंतीचा प्रारंभ केला. १९९९ साली, कोल्हापूरचे शाहू छत्रपती महाराज यांच्या अध्यक्षतेखाली झालेल्या बैठकीत त्यांची 'छत्रपती राजाराम महाराज स्मारक समिती', पुणे चे अध्यक्ष म्हणून नियुक्ती झाली. त्यांनी १९९९ साली सिंहगड येथे छत्रपती राजाराम महाराजांच्या पुण्यतिथी कार्यक्रमाचे पुनरुज्जीवन केले, जो तेव्हापासून नियमितपणे आयोजित केला जातो. त्यांनी 'प्रशासन', 'आर्थिक धोरणे', 'परदेश धोरणे' आणि छत्रपती शिवाजी महाराज व छत्रपती राजाराम महाराज यांच्या 'मराठा सैन्य' या विषयांवर विविध ठिकाणी भाषणे दिली आहेत. त्यांनी आग्रा, दिल्ली आणि पानिपत येथे "मराठ्यांची उत्तरेतील शौर्यगाथा" या विषयावर हिंदीत भाषणेही दिली आहेत.
